Why make wine from the Hills?
When Bec first arrived in South Australia she immediately fell in love with the Adelaide Hills. The rolling green hills reminded her of her home in Scotland, and the pine trees and vineyard vistas reminded her of the Russian River Valley in Northern California that she had just left.
Always more interested in white winemaking than reds, it was an Adelaide Hills Chardonnay that first got Bec really excited about South Australian wine. She sees huge potential in the Hills for cool-climate whites and believes the hills style is going from strength to strength.
Chardonnay is the variety that Bec has always wanted to make. She believes you could spend a lifetime working with Chardonnay and never master it. Vineyard, vintage, and the winemaker all have a role to play. The balance has always fascinated her, and she is humbled to be able to try her own style.
Realising she would need something to drink while the Chardonnay was in barrel, she found a small parcel of Pinot Gris nearby. Dry, textured and aromatic, she believes Pinot Gris is the perfect aperitif whilst she waits.
